| ‘Montebello' Rosé
False Cape is part of a treacherous piece of coastline on the rugged southern coast of Kangaroo Island. This feature, which is often mistaken for the nearby Cape Hart, is the nearest coastal landmark to our 30 acre Kangaroo Island vineyard.
Numerous ships have been wrecked in these waters, including the Montebello, a 2000 tonne French built barque which came to grief in 1906. All her crew eventually made it to safety but her remains lie scattered 100m off the spectacular south coast.
The cool, maritime conditions on Kangaroo Island, along with ancient soils allow for slow even ripening which has provided fruit of outstanding character for this wine. Predominately a blend of Merlot and Cabernet with a dash of Shiraz, this Rosé shows raspberries and floral notes on the bouquet, whilst the palate has sweet red fruits and lingering balanced acidity.
