| ‘Unknown Sailor' Cabernet/Merlot False Cape is part of a treacherous piece of coastline on the rugged southern coast of Kangaroo Island. This feature, which is often mistaken for the nearby Cape Hart, is the nearest coastal landmark to our 30 acre Kangaroo Island vineyard.
Numerous ships have been wrecked in these waters, including the Lock Vennachar in 1905 where there were no survivors. A cross crudely encrypted with the ‘unknown sailor’ marks the burial place of the only body found and is a testament to the brave men who have sailed these waters.
Our ‘Unknown Sailor’ is a Bordeaux blend of 80% Cab Sauv and 20% Merlot.
Traditional winemaking techniques along with 18 months maturation in French and American oak have created this stylish medium bodied wine. The aroma has elements of red currants and strawberry with a hint of vanilla. These characters flow on to the palate which shows abundant fruit sweetness and soft tannins. Drink now or over the next 4-6 years.
