The rugged nature of the south coast of Kangaroo Island has caused numerous wrecks in these waters, including the ‘Lock Vennachar’ in 1905 where there were no survivors. A cross crudely encrypted with the ‘unknown sailor’ marks the burial place of the only body found and is a testament to the brave men who have sailed these waters.
Our 2013 ‘Unknown Sailor’ is a Bordeaux blend of 85% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Merlot.
Traditional winemaking techniques along with 18 months maturation in French and American oak have created this stylish medium bodied wine. The aroma has elements of red currants and strawberry with a hint of vanilla. These characters flow on to the palate which shows abundant fruit sweetness and soft tannins.
This wine will age gracefully over the next 8-10 years.
