2024 ALICE'S RESERVE CHARDONNAY
We're especially excited to release our 2024 Alice's Reserve Chardonnay, a limited release chardonnay paying homage to Alice Fairweather Follett, whose pioneering spirit and hard work helped establish our Langhorne Creek vineyard during the 1880's and 1890's.
Alice Fairweather married Arthur Follett in 1890, and together they raised eight children on the Fairholme property.
She is beautifully described in this 1893 article in the SA Register, as a "good lady [who could] not only drive, milk, cook and otherwise work hard, but after her day's toil entertain her husband and friends with charming vocal and instrumental music and discuss with them matters of interest to the literary world."
Our inaugural 2024 Alice's Reserve Chardonnay was barrel fermented using wild yeast in French oak barriques, with 50% of the barrels being new and undergoing malolactic fermentation.
Lemon pith and nectarine provide the wine's fruit profile, complemented by balanced oak, savoury complexity and subtle struck flint. The palate is concentrated and layered, with a combination of richness and freshness. Extended lees maturation (10 months) gives the wine a supple texture, while the natural acidity provides freshness, length and definition through the finish.
