Vintage 2025 saw the earliest start and earliest finish on record, in what was possibly the driest growing season we’ve experienced.
Our crop levels were considered about average, which was surprising despite some early season frost damage.
The vineyard held up remarkably well considering the warm year and dry conditions. The fact we had abundant irrigation was a godsend and allowed us to water the vineyards right up to harvest, to maintain fresh canopies and allow the grapes to ripen evenly and help retain natural acidity.
2025 will go down as a great vintage with white varieties performing brilliantly and the reds showing good concentration, abundant fruit character and nice ripe tannins.
With vintage kicking off so early, we had boys tagging in and out halfway through. Ronan and Thomas hit the ground running on January 29 with our first pick. Chad and Tyler were late starters with family and other vintage commitments, and throughout it all, Tas held the show together with me.
And if winemaking doesn’t work out for Ronan, he can find solace in the kitchen - his vintage bacon and egg sangers were outstanding, especially when he added avocado!
